Simon joined ACE in September 2021 as a graduate and currently works as a Mechanical Designer within the internal machine building team in Lummen.
He translates concepts and calculations from project leaders into 3D machine designs, which are then used to create 2D drawings for suppliers. He is also involved in supplier coordination, including requesting quotations and placing orders.
Simon is involved in the practical development of machines, from translating concepts into workable designs to coordinating with suppliers.
One of the aspects he values most is seeing machines he worked on being used to produce real products in everyday environments.
As his first professional experience, starting at ACE meant adapting to a new environment and way of working. Building connections with colleagues took time, but over the months, collaboration became more natural.
Today, he highlights the team and the working atmosphere as an important part of his experience.
Since joining ACE, Simon has expanded both his technical and personal skills. Alongside his engineering responsibilities, he has become more confident in communication and collaboration within project teams.
Over time, he also took on a mentoring role, supporting a junior colleague and sharing the experience he has built so far.
Working alongside experienced engineers has played an important role in his development. Early on, he learned the value of being surrounded by people who challenge you and help you improve.
Being part of technically strong teams helped him broaden his knowledge and approach to engineering problems.
One of the strengths of working at ACE, for Simon, is the variety of projects. He has worked on machines of different sizes and across multiple sectors, allowing him to build broad technical experience.
This variety keeps the work interesting and continuously brings new challenges.
For Simon, the working environment at ACE combines strong technical expertise with a down‑to‑earth team atmosphere. The mix of different projects and colleagues keeps the work engaging.
It is mainly the people and the diversity in projects that motivate him in his day‑to‑day work.
Outside of work, Simon likes to stay active. He regularly does fitness, goes running and recently started playing tennis. In winter, he spends time snowboarding in the mountains.
He also enjoys travelling and spending time with friends, balancing his work with an active lifestyle.
Being able to see the products in stores that were made by the machines you’ve worked on is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job.
